more goofy screenshots
« Thread started on: Dec 23rd, 2007, 10:32pm »

"Stickman" kept spinning me out and leading so I got mad and rammed him into the wall and gained my laps back + the lead. Coming around the final turn I turned around the tire and hit him again as he was in the middle of the track so I crossed the line at an angle. After winning at Dixboro they put my car in the winners circle and it slid over. kind of weird huh?

One time when my game went back to the desktop and I opened it back up again (you know where the colors change and the cars are orange and stuff) then it did it again and this time when I opened it the cars were blue. Like the colors were inverted or something. It looked really cool. I took a screenshot and this is what I got. The screen looked nothing like this. Wierd huh?

How bout some of the game's tracks? I was looking at all the files of the Kingsville track together in Zmodeler and I saw some ramps and stuff. Various jumps, big jumps, small jumps, even compound angle jumps. I typed in their own file names in Kingsville's SCN file and they showed up in the game. Its kind of strange how the game included all sorts of extra stuff in the game that wasnt used. Kind of makes you wonder if there were going to be more event types and stuff. I'm looking at a lot of the other tracks now too. Madison seems to have about 100 square bales and barrels that dont get used in the game. Kind of a waste of memory, huh?

I think those Ramps and things above could make for a good Hell Drivers or Rollover competitions track.

Speaking of rollovers. I took this picture off my Oval bump to pass track. Its not too often in the game where a car will land on its side and not roll back onto its roof or wheels. The Death Proff car just stayed there on its side. Triple points LOL.

I can't say that ive ever seen a car stay on its side. If the AI driver would be on the gas the car would flip back over, or at least rock around.

I was testing out this track when I rolled my car.
I like the way the damage looks on the it. The game did a realistic job of creating this damage.

I've rolled plenty of cars and this looks like a rolled car.

Note that the Drivers side rear fender is buckled down while the passenger side isn't. And the reverse is somewhat evident on the front.

I never noticed that until you pointed it out...
Thats cool. Way to far away in the derby to see it.
I always like people who put in the xtra details that many will never see.

As for the blue track..

Can we make Boats and race around the Oval?

And now for something completely different.
I screwed up the first screen. When I went to this forum I saw 25 GUESTS. Clearly knowing it was a glitch, I then logged in. 24 Guest and 1 member. While I have seen the tally change 1 or 2 while moving between threads, I have never seen something like this. I still think its a glitch but its interesting enough I had to prove I saw it.

wow? 24 guests. must be a glitch. or bots/webcrawlers or whatever you call them.

One time I was playing around with the 'sink' function in the terradry folder. With a surface that looks like water it might pass as water.

yes, boats are possible

hope you can swim

Great. If we can make boats, it will be easy to implement boat races.... and I would like to have boats. Even Boat derbies

I JUST GOT ANOTHER IDEA FROM YOUR PICTURE!!!

Swamp Buggy Figure 8 Races. Even SwampBuggy Derbies.

Think of those MonsterTrucks in a swamp bashing it out.

If someone had the time, this single game could be customized into a whole slew events.

lol, yeah.

I had never thought of swamp buggy races. Very possible. You could even create a low place in the track or a Sippy-Hole where the buggies would sink up to the drivers helmets.

One event I would really like to have is trailer races. But I dont beleive it is possible to have a pivoting point on the vehicle (the hitch), or the free-riding trailer on the back.

I would also love to have combine derbies, but that would also be hard to pull off. A big part of what makes the combines unique to car derbies is the individual brakes like a tractor has. Ive seen two combines in a derby stuck together side-by-side, with another combine running down the track towards the side of one of them. One of the stuck combines used the individual brakes and lots of throttle to completely rotate itself around 180 degrees, along with the other combine stuck to it. It turned the other combine right in front of the oncoming combine to take the hit for it. LOL

Also, the rear steering of combines is very weak. Similar to the rear suspension of a front wheel drive car. after a few hits, they can no longer steer, so they are forced to use the individual brakes to steer. It would be hard to recreate this since the performance of cars in this game does not change as the car is damaged. And basically, a combine is out when it quits running, or if one of the drive wheels goes flat. It would be hard to recreate this also.

I've opened up every file that is a part of this game and I cannot figure out where the data is that determines how the cars bend, ect. For the longest time, the only file I havent been able to open was the Mss32.dll file in the main folder. But recently, I've used a resource hacker to open up the Mss32.dll file. That turned out to be information on the games icon/app file. If you ever wanted to change the icon for DD&F8 from the tire to something else, or change some of the information related to the app/exe the Mss32.dll is where to find the info.
But I have stumbled upon an "illusive" file that likes to play hide and seek. Probably for a reason. Its the very last source I can think of that may contain all of the missing links to the performance of this game (how the cars bend, ect.). Its called the thumbs.db data base file and I have found it occasionally when opening up a zipped car file or an AI car file. These files are fairly large (2nd largest file in an add-on car's zip file, first being the TEAM.MAS file), but not all cars seem to have them. Often when I was compressing a car file to upload it, I never knew what they were, so I used to delete them and the cars would work fine without them. The same resource hacker I mentioned above will also work to open these, if only I could figure out how to see them when the files are not in a zip file. The Thumbs.db files are invisible all other times.

Find out how to open these data base files and we will possibly be able to change things related to the performance of this game...
