Happy track Alpha/Beta Thread.
« Thread started on: Jul 25th, 2010, 12:01pm »

In the middle of looking at Strassmans New Track.
Without Balls and with Balls.

I am working on a starting grid for it.

I thought we could use this thread for cooperational development and questions and answers .

sounds like a good idea.

my next step is to search for SCGT tracks with moveable objects (ex: road cones, ect) that I can copy code from. Hopefully I can learn a little more from SCGT, get the balls working better, and I wouldnt be suprised if I would learn something new that could be done with moveable objects.

I have just sent Strassman a New Starting Grid lineup.
Its not finished or Final, unless he's comfortable with it.

Also, if Strassman gives me the ok, I will post his track diagram he sent me on here. Starting grid, Marbles, Balls,, Cement etc.

that would be good for me so I can get an idea of how to make the ball pit

I downloaded 3 random SCGT tracks and they all had moveable cones.

The code was a little different than what I had and each of the tracks even had a little bit different codes.

I found 3 new codes to get moveable objects, I've found out you can set a starting position for them without modeling it (similar to a starting position for a car on the grid), and you dont have to have the "CollTarget=" code (which seems strange to me because that tells if the object can be collided with.

With all the different combinations I did, the balls still acted the same

Thats just there behavior, theres no way around it. With small, small balls in a ball pit it wont be as annoying I assume.

Its your call strass, what do you think?

Should this track have its balls removed?

Sorry guys, just came across this...erm...now!! DOH!!

For sure Max, feel free to post the diagram, or anything that's we've all been collaborating about.
(You two are definitely the brains here)

As for the grid - I can live with that...not as dramatic as starting horn "balls to the wall" head-on collision(s) I was visioning, but I'm thinking it might be good to have options...lol!!

You know guys, I'm kinda torn? As much as I dislike the balls (and such) going through walls/floor...they are cool & it cracks me up launching one of them out of the track & way across the field??

Whaddya two think? Should we see how the ball pit comes along & maybe we'll have some other sweet ideas?

Would anything else work, besides balls...smaller/different shape, etc? Do the haystacks disappear the same?
(I've never seen them in action for some odd reason?)

Yes, I love the balls when they are working, but its like the game loses track of them all of a sudden.

Shape does not make a difference. The haybales act the same. A long time ago I used this same code on the blue barrels that come stock in Dixboro (but not used in the final track). The barrels acted the exact same as these balls do now. I kind of forgot how tempermental they were.

I think if the balls were much smaller and mostly contained in the ball pit it would be less noticeable, but just my theory.

For my next task, I will work on the cement fountain. If we choose not to fill it with balls I have an idea on how to fill it with water

Here's the Picture. I am going to turn the cars around for a head on. I made the first grid based upon an Ascii layout. So I got it wrong. This looks more fun. I will change it and test it.

Ya, it's kinda of a shame about your balls...

Water you say, I'd be interested in seeing that too...

Alrighty then, it will be less dramatic because there's no "cement pond"...yet...but just you wait, it'll be either head on with cars, or head on with that.

what if the ball pit was a little wider, so all 8 cars dive through the ball pit head on at once. balls flying everywhere

it could be done. I was talking having the pit stretch to touch each side of the track. It looks like max has 2 large balls on each side of the pit. I was thinking of eliminating those and stretching the pit on each side in their place.
